Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens, better called Queen Latifah in the US, is a performer and actress. The work of Queen Latifah on television, film and music has won her several prizes. These include the Golden Globe Award two Screen Actors Guild Awards Two Image Awards A Grammy Award Six additional Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award Nomination and an Academy Award. Queen Latifah is a Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. as a police officer as well as Rita, a instructor of Irvington High School. Latifah's parents divorced after Latifah, then ten years old. Latifah was a student at the Catholic School in Newark, New Jersey and was raised through the Baptist Church. Latifah refers to an Arabic term that translates to "delicate and kind". Her aunt gave it to her when she was eight. Latifah's height of 5'10" made her a powerful athlete at high school. The play she played in her high school she performed "Home" from The Wiz. Latifah was a beatboxer in her band, the Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah was a part of the Flavor Unit's first group, which included several MCs as well as DJ Mark 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King made a demo recording of Queen Latifah's song Princess of the Posse. He gave the recording to the host of Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. The track caught the attention of Tommy Boy Music employee Dante Ross who has signed Latifah and in 1988 issued her first track Wrath of My Madness.
