Nancy Wilson was born on 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe Ohio, to Olden Wilson who was a worker at an ironworks and Lillian Ryan, a former domestic worker. Nancy was the sixth of seven children. The father of Nancy was a musician and would play records in the family. It had a huge influence on her as a child. As a young girl, she already had an idea of her identity and the things she wanted to be. The church choir encouraged her to develop this talent. Cannonball Aderley suggested that she move into New York so as to improve her career. In 1959, Nancy moved into The Big Town. Her agent heard her speak in The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she then signed her contract. Within one month after arriving at New York City.
