Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson
Nancy Wilson was born 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe. She was the daughter of Olden Wilson, an ironworker and Lillian Ryan (a former housemaid). Nancy Wilson was the only child of six. The music passion of her father and the records he played at home were a huge influence on Nancy at the age of a girl. At the age of four, Nancy knew her destiny was to be a singer. Her talents were developed by singing with the church choir. In high school the singer began appearing regularly in Skyline Melodies. She was 15 when won the TV talent show. When she was fifteen, she began her journey in night clubs. Nancy was a high school graduate at the age of 17 and then attended the Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a entire year. After that, she left to pursue a job as a professional musician. In 1956, she made her first album as part of Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band with who she performed on tour between 1956 and 1958. Nancy's very first Dot Records recording was made during her time in the Big Band of Carolyn Club. Cannonball adderley advised her to go for a trip to New York in order to increase her fame. She went to The Big Town, New York in 1959. In less than a month she had been singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club located on Boston Road near The Bronx. The representative of Adderley heard her sing and immediately took her on. It was a contract by Capitol Records in 1960. That year, she debuted with the song. Guess Who I Saw today Capitol has released five Nancy Wilson albums within two years. At first, she focused on rhythm and blues under Adderley's influence, she began to move away from R&B and began to embrace the torch and jazz genres. The 1962 group collaboration of Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley helped propel her to prominence and her breakthrough hit Tell Me the Truth in 1963. In the following year, she received an invitation to perform at New York's Coconut Grove, the most prestigious night club in America.
