Nancy Wilson was born 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Olden Wilson, a iron worker, and Lillian Ryan (a former housemaid). Nancy was the oldest of six children. Her father's love of music and his collection of records in the family room were an enormous influence on Nancy as a young girl. When she was just 4years old, Nancy was aware she would be an artist. She was able to develop her talents by singing with the choir of her church. After winning a talent competition in a television show around the age of 15 years old, she began to appear regularly on Skyline Melodies, while still in highschool. The same year, Nancy began working at night clubs. Nancy was 17 at the time she completed high school. After matriculating at Ohio Central State College - which is now Central State University - for one term, Nancy went on to become professional performers. The first album she recorded was with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band in 1956. The group toured from 1956 to 1958. Nancy released her debut recording via Dot Records during the time she was with the group. Cannonball suggested that she relocate to New York and go to The Big Town for the rest of her career. Her agent heard her speak at The Blue Morocco Night Club, Boston Road, The Bronx and she then signed her contract. within a month after arriving to New York, she was in the city. It was a contract by Capitol Records in 1960. The year was 1960 when she released her first single. Guess whom I am seeing this morning. Capitol issued five Nancy Wilson albums within two years. In the era of Adderley Wilson's direction, she began to focus on R&B however she soon switched to jazz and torch music. Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley as well as their 1962 partnership led her to the top of the charts. Her breakthrough song Tell Me the Truth by 1963. This brought her a gig at the New York's Coconut Grove the premier night club in America that year, and she quickly became a legend.
